On Sunday 7 September our Music Director, Vasily Petrenko, took to the stage at the BBC Proms, conducting Ottorino Respighi’s Pines of Rome, Darius Milhaud's La beouf sur le toit with violinist Arabella Steinbacher, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ evocative cityscape, his Symphony No.2 (A London Symphony).

This summer, RPO Resound had the pleasure of collaborating with Orchestras Live and Deep Roots, Tall Trees (DRTT) to deliver a series of music workshops at a youth club in Corby. Through youth-led exploration of a variety of instruments and musical styles, the workshops resulted in a sprawling and adventurous EP, co-written between the young participants and RPO musicians.

As the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) and Music Director Vasily Petrenko prepare for their performance in the final week of this year’s BBC Proms season, new research from the Orchestra reveals that the public’s appetite to discover orchestral music has hit a record high - and, among school children, the new academic year starts with a record number of children wanting to learn a musical instrument.
