The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s (RPO) mission is to place orchestral music at the heart of contemporary society and to ensure that live orchestral music is accessible to as inclusive and diverse an audience as possible. As part of this commitment, the Orchestra enjoys four key residencies outside of London and is proud to be Resident Orchestra in Crawley.
The RPO has a long-standing partnership with The Hawth in Crawley, to which it has been a regular visitor since the venue opened in 1988. Performing as part of the venue’s Classical Concert Season, the Orchestra’s residency features large-scale orchestral concerts in the Main Auditorium as well as a range of chamber performances in the Studio, featuring the RPO’s principal players. Outside of the concert hall, the Orchestra is embedded in the local community, working alongside the West Sussex Music Hub to provide a programme of creative workshops, performance opportunities and live orchestral experiences. Family concerts are also a staple of the residency, with its popular Noisy Kids concert a regular feature of the last two decades. The RPO has enjoyed working on projects within the local area, celebrating important milestones for The Hawth and Crawley town, as well as partnering with organisations like Creative Playground Crawley to offer unique experiences.
Current and forthcoming highlights at The Hawth includes Adam Hickox conducting Dvořák’s Symphony No.7, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Hana Chang, a gala of favourite opera classics, an evening of music for brass ensemble and Noisy Kids, a family concert led by presenter Tim Steiner.
