Co-Principal Double Bass

Co-Principal Double Bass of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Benjamin Cunningham is from the North West of England where he began his double bass studies with the local peripatetic music service. Scholarship studies followed at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, the Royal Academy of Music in London and The Juilliard School in New York.

He has been a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra since 2006 and plays on an instrument made for him by the Birmingham luthier, Martin Lawrence.

Benn is the proud father of a sausage dog called Reg, an extensive indoor plant collection and an extravagantly flower-filled garden.

Benjamin gratefully acknowledges the support of his Chair Partners, Naomi and Simon Venn.
