On Sunday 23 October we performed the first Mahler concert in our Journeys of Discovery 2022-23 London Season at the Royal Albert Hall as Music Director Vasily Petrenko conducted Symphony No.8, 'Symphony of a Thousand' to rapturous applause.
In Autumn 2021, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s (RPO) community and education team began an eighteen-month pilot programme of creative music activity supporting Brent residents experiencing mental health challenges as part of the Baring Foundation’s Creatively Minded and Ethnically Diverse funding stream.
More than one in two UK adults (55%) say they are interested in exploring orchestral music this winter, as firm evidence emerges to suggest the genre is appealing to a new generation - with 61% of under 25s and 57% of 25-34s saying they would like to discover more about orchestral music.
This month the Orchestra embarked on a tour to Europe with Music Director Vasily Petrenko, spanning Slovakia, Croatia, Poland, Lithuania and Greece. Joined by soloists Simon Trpčeski, Sergei Krylov and Anastasiya Petryshak, the Orchestra perfomed music by Beethoven, Sibelius, Bruch, Prokofiev, Wagner and Grieg.
