On Saturday 14 June, musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra joined students from Brent Music Service’s Junior Musician of the Year competition for a day of masterclasses focused on solo performance technique, in conjunction with the Orchestra's Community and Education team, RPO Resound.

After joining together for a group warm-up, led by Principal Bass Trombone Josh Cirtina, students took turns performing for the musicians and their audience of peers.

The musicians gave valuable tips on how to elevate their performances, focusing on areas such as tone quality, posture, and playing technique.

There was also time for an RPO spotlight session in the afternoon led by the Orchestra's Sub-Principal Flute, Jo Marsh, where the musicians discussed their journeys into the industry, performed excerpts from some of their favourite pieces, and took time to answer questions from the students. It was a rewarding and inspiring experience for both the students and musicians.
