Martyn Brabbins Conductor
Lucienne Renaudin Vary* Trumpet
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Opening this summertime concert will be Debussy’s sumptuous and dreamlike Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, conducted by Martyn Brabbins. Depicting a faun’s afternoon in the forest, this piece languidly flows with a mediated melody through Debussy’s unique musical language.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is joined by Lucienne Renaudin Vary, an exciting young talent in the world of classical music, who is due to release her debut album with Warner Classics in autumn 2017. Next season will see her tour extensivley, including dates with Munich Symonhny Orcehstra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Les Violons du Roy and Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. Her performance of Haydn’s eloquent Trumpet Concerto is not to be missed.
The Orchestra will conclude with Shostakovich’s imposing Symphony No.5. Filled with wonderful melodies and stirring rhythms, his Symphony is busting with tremendous power and rebellious beauty. Written under Stalin’s constricting Soviet regime, Shostakovich created a blend of satire and submission that intrigues audiences to this day.
*Please note: Lucienne Renaudin Vary replaces Alison Balsom as the soloist for this concert, tickets already purchased are still valid. For further information please contact [email protected]
