RAVEL Mother Goose Suite
PROKOFIEV Violin Concerto No.2
DVOŘÁK Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’
Charles Dutoit Conductor
Vadim Repin Violin
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Ravel’s acute ability to re-engage sensations and memories from childhood resulted in music of playful innocence and unalloyed purity. His Mother Goose Suite explores the realms of childhood fairy tales and captures Ravel’s experimental and exotic compositional style.
Under the baton of Charles Dutoit and welcoming violinist Vadim Repin, the programme includes Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No.2, which opens with a beautiful and melancholic solo violin line before springing into life.
Composed while Dvořák was living in America, a sense of homesick longing pervades his ‘New World’ Symphony, as he reflects on his native Bohemia with sumptuous melodies, passionate strings and all-round brilliance.
This concert will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.
