BEETHOVEN Symphony No.6, 'Pastoral'

Matthew Coorey Conductor
Benjamin Baker Violin

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Opening this concert will be Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture, which conjures the sights and sounds of Scottish scenery, from calm still waters to intense and dramatic storms. Elgar’s regal and soulful Elegy for strings sets the scene for Mozart’s sublime Violin Concerto.

The orchestral journey through nature concludes with Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No.6, 'Pastoral', promising an 'awakening of pleasant feelings upon arriving in the country’.

*Thomas Albertus Irnberger who had previously been advertised as the guest violinist has withdrawn from this concert due to illness, we are grateful to Benjamin Baker for agreeing to step in at short notice.
