- Sergei Rachmaninov completed his Piano Concerto No.1 in 1891, which was followed a year later with his most celebrated work for solo piano, the Prelude in C Sharp Minor.
- In 1897 he focussed his energies with the Moscow Private Russian Opera Company, which lead to his first professional trip abroad to London in 1899.
- In 1900 he premiered his Piano Concerto No.2.
- In 1909 he composed his three-movement masterpiece Piano Concerto No. 3, often termed "Rach 3". Sergei Rachmaninov completed his Piano Concerto No.1 in 1891, which was followed a year later with his most celebrated work for solo piano, the Prelude in C Sharp Minor.
- Until 1996 "Rach 3" was largely eclipsed by its older sibling, Piano Concerto No. 2 – but the popularity gap narrowed with the release of the film Shine, which starred Jeffrey Rush as Australian concert pianist David Helfgott!
