Jason Henery is an Australian bassist and Principal Bass of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Growing up with British and Australian musician parents in Sydney, he began playing Double Bass at the age of 10, learning from his father, Alex Henery. In 2019, he moved to the United States to begin undergraduate studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, studying with Harold Robinson and Edgar Meyer. During his time at Curtis, he performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philharmonia Orchestra, and members of the Berlin Philharmonic at the Pacific Music Festival. In 2021, he was awarded First Prize and the Gary Karr Prize at the International Society of Bassists’ Solo Competition, returning as a featured soloist at the 2023 convention in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Since relocating to London in 2024, Jason has appeared as Guest Principal with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, BBC Concert Orchestra, and Oxford Philharmonic. He has also performed widely with ensembles including the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Sinfonia of London, and the City of London Sinfonia.
