Bruch's Violin Concerto

Friday 25 February 2022, 7.30pm
Crawley The Hawth

Glinka Ruslan and Ludmilla: Overture
Bruch Violin Concerto No.1
Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6, ‘Pathétique’

Pablo González Conductor
Ellinor D’Melon Violin

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Young violinist Ellinor D’Melon has been described as ‘one of those rare players who gives the impression that her command – both technical and musical – is total’ (The Irish Times). She joins the Orchestra to perform Bruch’s Violin Concerto No.1, a piece that unleashes the full spectrum of the violin, from beautiful melodies to astounding virtuosity, and never fails to enthral listeners.

Framing the Concerto are two great Russian masterpieces. The energetic, scurrying strings of Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Ludmilla perfectly complement Tchaikovsky’s final symphonic manuscript, a towering work that encapsulates the composer’s emotional power.

This concert is part of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s 75th Anniversary Season. Passion, versatility and uncompromising artistic standards, as well as a belief that music is a gift that can bring people together and inspire positive change, have been RPO hallmarks for the past 75 years. As we embark on the next exciting chapter, the RPO invites you to join the journey and share the thrill of live orchestral music.

The safety of our audiences is of paramount importance.
