RPO Resound

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s groundbreaking and award-winning Community and Education programme – RPO Resound – has been at the forefront of delivering orchestral outreach projects since its inception in 1993, successfully underpinning the RPO’s extensive programme of UK regional performances and ultimately enhancing lives through the power of music.

Fulfilling more than 250 sessions, projects and concerts a year that involve approximately 7,500 participants, including RPO musicians, RPO Resound delivers high quality music-making experiences in an array of community settings – from rehabilitative programmes in prisons to projects with homeless people. The overarching objective is to leave a lasting legacy by harnessing the transformative power of music to improve participants’ aspirations, abilities and life chances.

The momentous achievements of the first twenty years of RPO Resound were celebrated at a Gala Dinner hosted by HRH The Duke of York, the Orchestra’s patron, at Windsor Castle on 5 November 2013.

RPO Resound has the following aims

  • To promote music education in the broadest sense through artistically driven projects.
  • To promote opportunities for all members of the community to participate in music projects regardless of age, sex, religion or ethnic background.
  • To provide access for people to hear and participate with musicians from a world-class musical organisation.
  • To explore a diverse range of musical genres.
  • To bring our collective expertise to any situation; not just into formal educational establishments, but also to the wider community and other challenging social situations.
  • To forge partnerships within the community to create jointly-owned projects.
  • To promote cross art-form collaborations and cross-curricular interaction.
