Tchaikovsky asked for his Fifth Symphony to be performed con desiderio e passione –‘with desire and passion’ – and when guest conductor Cornelius Meister joins forces with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), we can promise exactly that. But that’s not all: the evening opens with a delightful new miniature from Composer-in-Association Joe Hisaishi (Spirited Away) and Clara-Jumi Kang brings her world-class insight and ‘powerhouse articulation’ to Britten’s captivating Violin Concerto, written on the eve of World War II.
