About the Royal & Derngate

An important entertainment hub for all communities across Northamptonshire and beyond, the three-stage and cinema complex is home to an acclaimed Made In Northampton self-produced programme as well as welcoming some of the most well-known acts and shows touring the UK. In recent years the venue has celebrated Stage, Olivier and Academy Awards nominations, notably including a prestigious win for Best Family Show at the 2020 Oliviers, and in 2025 it was named the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre in the UK Theatre Awards. As important as the work on its stages, its nationally recognised Creative Engagement programme works with schools, families and communities, and the Generate development programme supports hundreds of regional artists each year, at all stages of their careers.

By Train

Northampton train station is approximately a 15 minute walk from the theatre and is served by a busy taxi rank. London Midland operates regular services with both London and Birmingham approximately an hour’s journey away.

By Bus

Northampton’s new bus interchange, North Gate Bus Station, is approximately 10 minutes walk away. There are bus stops throughout the Town Centre within a 5-minute walk.

Parking

The theatre has several car parks located nearby. There are also a number of pay and display on‑street options available. Please be aware that St. John’s multi-story car park (485 spaces) and Albion Place Car Park (71 spaces) can become extremely busy during popular show days and peak times. Just a five-minute walk from the venue’s Swan Street entrance, additional parking is available at Commercial Street (250 spaces) ) and long-stay parking at Morrisons on Victoria Parade is available via justpark.com. Blue badge holders should head for Albion Place, the closest car park to the main entrance.
