On Wednesday 7 June the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra's Journeys of Discovery series with Music Director Vasily Petrenko came to a close in Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall with two pieces on the theme of Conflict, from the scale of the interpersonal to the immeasurable tragedies of war, in Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No.1 and Shostakovich's Symphony No.8. Joining the Orchestra was Japanese pianist Nobuyuki Tsujii, who had performed with us for a tour across his home country in May to a resounding reception.

On Wednesday 10 May, our Journeys of Discovery series continued with Psychedelia in Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall, a concert of works that featured music born from the deepest parts of the human psyche, concluding with the serene to the demonic scenes of Berlioz' Symphonie Fantastique, conducted by Vasily Petrenko.

We commissioned design agency D8 to create a visual story of our Journeys of Discovery season with our Music Director Vasily Petrenko, a journey through the facets of the human character with music as our guide in concerts at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
