This concert is part of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s tour of the United States in 2022.
Vasily Petrenko’s 2019 Carnegie Hall debut (as a last-minute replacement for an indisposed Mariss Jansons) was called “genuinely auspicious” (Musical America). Named the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s music director in 2021, he leads the Orchestra in an all-English program for its first Carnegie Hall appearance in 25 years. Taking center stage for Elgar’s elegiac Cello Concerto is cellist Kian Soltani, celebrated for his “commanding technique and rhapsodic intensity” (The New York Times).
The concert is being held in honour of Lilia Bloom.
