Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky

Join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, led by Music Director Vasily Petrenko, for an unmissable afternoon of music as they perform three exceptional works.

Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 was a labour of love, with the composer revising it three times. The result was a work that has stood the test of time, shooting its arrow direct to the heart. All sentiments are there: fury, serenity, joy, and – of course – passion.

Following that, stirring power of the ensemble brings to life Shostakovich’s deeply personal, dark and despairing Symphony No.10, considered one of the greatest of all 20th-century symphonies.

But first, the wisp-like Kikimora conjures wicked schemes in Liadov's fantastical folktale overture.
