The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra opens this year's Summer Music in City Churches festival with three titans of classical repertoire. The legendary hero of opera, Figaro, sets the scene for one of the most beloved piano concertos of all, the Emperor, perhaps the crowning glory of Beethoven's 'heroic' period. The opening chords of Mozart's final symphony reminded a contemporary critic of Jupiter and his thunderbolts. It is exhilarating, and regarded by many as the greatest of all classical symphonies.
