Introduced from the stage, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Leader Duncan Riddell directs this exquisite 75-minute performance, putting the string section of the Orchestra in the spotlight with a selection of well-loved pieces. Mozart’s ever popular and expertly crafted Eine kleine Nachtmusik precedes Nielsen’s elegiac Little Suite, an early work that announced the talents of the great Danish composer. Tchaikovsky’s sublime Serenade for Strings completes the programme. A work inspired by Mozart and described by the composer as written ‘from the heart’, the Serenade is the perfect piece to showcase the luscious sounds of the RPO’s strings.
