Vasily Petrenko takes to the podium to conduct Verdi’s momentous score.
Composed after a break from sacred music for thirty years, and inspired by the deaths of the composer Rossini and author Alessandro Manzoni, Verdi’s Requiem is something of a marvel, featuring stirring, blazing fanfares and lyrical vocal duets, combined with magical stillness and choral splendour.
The Orchestra, alongside the highly acclaimed Bach Choir and a formidable line-up of soloists, performs Verdi’s tour de force, which culminates in an astounding finale – a staggering ffff for the chorus.
