Wagner likened the strings in his opera Lohengrin to ‘streams of gold, ravishing the senses of the beholder’, and ravish the senses they certainly do!
Following the Prelude to Act One, we experience the passion and intensity of Elgar’s Cello Concerto – played by Raphael Wallfisch – with its opening torturous chords immediately revealing the work’s heart-wrenching emotion.
And the drama doesn’t end there, as Maestro Jac van Steen leads the Orchestra in Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, a work of nobility and orchestral gravitas.
