Opening this concert will be Mendelssohn’s mysteriously intense Hebrides Overture, which depicts the stormy tides and still waters in Scottish scenery. Moving from the Highlands to the Nordic, Sibelius’ symphonic poem Finlandia opens with snarling brass and thunderous timpani, building to its stirring climax brimming with drama.

The RPO's Principal Clarinet Katherine Lacy takes centre stage to perform Mozart’s ever-popular and charming Clarinet Concerto. Having recently placed No.7 in Classic FM’s Ultimate Hall of Fame, this piece brings together expressive and cheeky melodies. Concluding the evening, the Orchestra will perform Dvořák’s soaring masterpiece, his Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’; inspired by Dvořák’s travels across America, his famous Symphony drew the Romantic era to a powerful close.
