Following last year's performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No.1 and our recent recording of The Art of Chopin (Fondation Résonnance), "Chopin exponent" (The Guardian) Elizabeth Sombart and conductor Pierre Vallet return to Cadogan Hall to perform the second of Chopin's piano concertos. Composed at the mere age of twenty, Chopin’s Piano Concerto No.2 harks back to the likes of Hummel and Mozart whilst including Chopin’s patriotic hallmark, as the finale inhabits the world of Polish folk music.

Also featured in the concert is the Overture to Tannhäuser, which in typical Wagnerian style encapsulates the drama of Wagner's greatly admired opera, with its quasi-Bach chorale opening and dazzling, tormenting middle. The concert finishes with Beethoven’s sunny and joyous Fourth Symphony.

Chopin: The Piano Concertos CD review – superb flexibility and freedom
"Sombart’s playing is superb: technically precise but possessing a flexibility and freedom that lets the music breathe. Vallet conducts with an innate understanding of the soloist’s intentions." (The Guardian)
