Suffolk County Music Service (SCMS) is delighted to join forces with the RPO to invite young string players from all over Suffolk to participate in the SCMS’ String Festival Day.
Organised as part of a planned programme of activities in partnership with SCMS, the RPO, Orchestras Live, the Northgate Foundation and Ipswich Regent Theatre, the Suffolk String Festival Day is a great way for young players to develop and extend their knowledge of their instrument through ensemble playing in a social and structured way. Participants will focus on improving skills, developing and learning new techniques, and having fun performing a varied repertoire in a range of styles.
During the day’s course, participants will be: coached to develop their string ensemble playing by an RPO string quintet and professional staff of the Suffolk County Music Service; have opportunities to play as part of large ensembles; have the opportunity to see and hear a professional string quintet led by the Orchestra’s world-renowned leader Clio Gould; perform specially arranged repertoire; receive instrument specific demonstrations and masterclasses.
Following the String Festival Day, an advanced ensemble of players will be invited to two further coaching sessions where they will work on carefully chosen repertoire to challenge players to achieve their highest potential. This will prepare the ensemble for a pre-concert performance with the RPO quintet before the RPO’s concert, The Music of Bond, on Tuesday 3 November.
