With one of music’s greatest melodies, Sibelius’ Finlandia is both darkly thunderous and beautifully evocative. Catching audiences by surprise, the powerful opening later gives way to peaceful sweeping strings in striking Finnish style.
One of today’s most talented and popular pianists, Freddy Kempf joins the Orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.3, which brims with high drama and flows into a dreamy reflectiveness. Closing the concert is Dvořák’s Symphony No.7, considered by many to be the composer’s finest work.
