Wagner, R. Strauss & Brahms

Need to know
The programmes for this concert and our pre-concert chamber music recital showcase music by Richard Strauss and Brahms.
Both Wagner and Brahms saw themselves as successors to Beethoven, yet their music was strikingly different. Wagner’s Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg starts the concert in proud vein and the concert ends with a powerful work of sublime inspiration, Brahms’ First Symphony. These frame the divine Four Last Songs by R. Strauss – his final and most exquisite piece.
