About Emilia Hoving
Associate Conductor
Emilia Hoving has emerged as one of the most exciting young Finnish conductors of today. Appointed Associate Conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from the 2025–26 Season, she has made multiple visits to conduct orchestras such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, and this season debuts with the Bamberg Symphony and Hallé orchestras.
Further afield she has been invited back to the São Paulo Symphony, Nagoya Philharmonic, Adelaide Symphony, Tasmanian Symphony and New Zealand Symphony orchestras; she makes her Melbourne Symphony Orchestra debut in 2026. She made her mainstage opera debut in 2025 conducting The Magic Flute at Opera North. Wherever possible, she includes works by living (especially Finnish) composers in her programmes.
Emilia’s career began as Assistant to Hannu Lintu at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (2019) and to Mikko Franck at the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France (2020–22). She was invited back to conduct both orchestras in subsequent seasons.
Born in 1994, Emilia studied first with Jorma Panula and then at the Sibelius Academy with Sakari Oramo and Atso Almila. In 2021, she won the Finnish Critics’ Prize 2021 for the Best Newcomer in the Arts.
