Principal Cor Anglais

Patrick Flanaghan became Principal Cor Anglais of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2016.

His musical life began as a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral after which he attended The Purcell School and the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), where he became an Associate in 2017. A DAAD scholarship took him to Mannheim to study with Professor Emanuel Abbühl. In the UK and Germany, Patrick has appeared regularly with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, Hamburg's NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Aurora Orchestra.

Patrick is a Professor of Cor Anglais at RAM and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. He gives regular classes at the music universities in Mainz, Mannheim and Cologne.

Outside of music, he enjoys running, watching Ireland and Bath rugby, and the torment of being a Spurs fan!

Patrick is a member of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Board of Directors.
