Principal Oboe

Glasgow-born John Roberts joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2013, having studied at the Royal College of Music until the previous year under the hugely influential oboist and one-time RPO member Christopher Cowie. The part of orchestral life that John has always enjoyed the most is giving concerts involving a great Romantic or twentieth-century symphony. He has particular fondness as well for the piano concertos of Mozart.

Alongside the RPO, John performs a lot of chamber music and can also be heard playing with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields and English Chamber Orchestra.

Based in Croydon, John also cycles and climbs mountains at any opportunity.
