Double Bass

Born in Morcambe, David Gordon started playing the bass guitar at the age of ten. After playing in several bands, he moved up to the double bass and started having lessons with Ray Hutchinson (Principal Double Bass with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra). Encouraged by Ray, he moved to London in 1982 to complete his undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under Professors Kevin Rundell and Thomas Martin.

Dave then moved to Manchester to take a position with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra where he developed a keen interest in instrument making and repairing. After twenty years he moved back to London to the join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
