DVOŘÁK Symphony No.9

Kerem Hasan Conductor
Leon McCawley Piano *

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra present Dvořák’s seminal work, Symphony No.9, ‘From the New World’. With echoes of the Native American and early African American folk traditions, the running tune throughout the piece so perfectly captures the flavour of the country that it is often described as an original American folk tune.

*Due to a hand injury, Mark Bebbington regrets that he will be unable to play in this evening's concert. In his place, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is excited to welcome Leon McCawley to perform Greig's Piano Concerto.

One of Britain’s foremost pianists, Leon McCawley has forged a highly successful career since winning first prize in the 1993 International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna and second prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition the same year. Since then, his concert performances and extensive discography have established him as a pianist of great integrity and variety, bringing freshness and vitality to Classical, Romantic and 20th century repertoire.
