About our Relaxed Performances
Every concert takes us on a journey of discovery, whether we’re performing or listening. But to get the most out of it, some of us might need slightly different conditions. If a traditional concert isn’t your thing, you might want to come to one of our Relaxed Performances.
In our Relaxed Performances, there are no rules. You can sit, stand, dance, clap, sing along – it’s up to you. All are welcome, but we extend a particular welcome to disabled adults and children, those with dementia or neurological conditions, those on the autistic spectrum, those with sensory differences, those with anxiety or those with young children or babies.
One thing doesn’t change – our commitment to joyous, inspiring performances in which you, the audience, are our oxygen. At a Relaxed Performance, you’re still hearing the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. We might get closer to each other than normal, and you’re welcome to interact. The performance will be British Sign Language (BSL) interpreted, and we offer a gentle sensory introduction to the space and the instruments.
Together we’ll experience beautiful, inspiring and fun music and explore the instruments with which that music is made. Otherwise, you’re in charge. You can take a break in a specially designated quiet space or listen quietly from wherever you want.
However you choose to engage with a Relaxed Performance, we’ll offer an enriching, authentic and heartfelt experience in a spirit of mutual discovery.
Relaxed Performances are kindly supported by The Austin and Hope Pilkington Trust, The Marchus Trust and Arts Council England.
