Co-Principal Trombone

Matthew Knight is Co-Principal Trombone of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, where he also serves as Chair of the RPO Board. He graduated with a Starred First in music from the University of Cambridge and undertook postgraduate studies in trombone at the Royal Academy of Music as well as in composing at the National Film and Television School.

He has performed with almost all of the UK orchestras and teaches at the Royal College of Music.

Matthew is the Artistic Director of the brass septet Septura. Currently Ensemble in Residence at the Royal Academy of Music, the group records for Naxos, appears regularly at the Wigmore Hall and has toured to New Zealand, Japan and America.

Matthew is currently on sabbatical.
