Vernon Handley
A champion of British music throughout his career, Vernon Handley's recordings regularly receive the highest acclaim from the critics. He received The Gramophone Award in 1989 for his recording with the RPO of Robin Simpson's Symphony No.9. In 2001, he recorded, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Bantock's Thalaba The Destroyer which prompted The Guardian to declare 'The playing by the gorgeous from start to finish'. He recently passed away at his home in Monmouthshire on September 10 2008.
