TCHAIKOVSKY Serenade for Strings

A star-studded evening of music, poetry and song in aid of Breast Cancer Campaign.

Presented by Simon Bates (Classic FM) with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Conducted by Debbie Wiseman. With special guest stars George Layton, Cherie Lunghi, Timothy West and Prunella Scales.

This concert has plenty of strings attached – but only from the musicians as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra’s violins, violas, cellos and double basses present their wares! Not only is this evening promoting a good cause, it also boasts a star-studded guest-list.

The music includes the translucent beauty of Borodin’s sweet Nocturne (familiar in itself and also as part of the musical, Kismet), the time-honoured serenity of Bach, and the rhythmic fun and frolics of Britten and Holst. Debbie Wiseman’s own character pieces will delight the ear in their musical portraiture and appeal, and Tchaikovsky’s expansive Serenade displays a big heart and deep emotions in a work that also waltzes, elegises and throbs with life. A classic line-up!
