VAUGHAN WILLIAMS The Wasps Overture
ELGAR Cello Concerto
TCHAIKOVSKY Symphony No.6
The Orchestra concludes Southend's Symphonies By The Sea season in dramatic style with a performance that starts with another Southend premiere, a performance of Vaughan Williams’ The Wasps Overture. The concert continues with an appearance from distinguished cellist Guy Johnston, who performs Elgar's Cello Concerto, written towards the end of the First World War. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.6, the last work to have been conducted by the composer before his death, provides an extraordinary climax.
