ROSSINI The Barber of Seville Overture
RODRIGO Concierto de Aranjuez
BIZET Carmen excerpts
RIMSKY-KORSAKOV Capriccio espagnol
The first concert in Southend's Symphonies By The Sea season will be full of exciting music inspired by Spanish themes. The Orchestra open with Rossini’s tantalising The Barber of Seville Overture, which will be followed by Fauré's poignant Pavane. The first half will conclude with Rodrigo's famous Concierto de Aranjuez. With its soaring melodies and great climaxes this wonderful guitar concerto has been thrilling audiences since it was first composed seventy years ago. After the interval we have excerpts from Bizet's Carmen and a Southend première: Piazzolla's seductive Libertango. The concert ends in fine Spanish form with Rimsky-Korsakov's dramatic Capriccio espagnol.
