SCHUBERT 'Unfinished' Symphony
BRUCH Violin Concerto
ELGAR 'Enigma' Variations
Forming the centrepiece of the concert, between Schubert and Elgar, Max Bruch's Violin Concerto is one of the most popular in the genre, full of romantic melodies and exuberant themes, and in the hands of ChloŽ Hanslip, this is sure to be a performance of virtuosity and sensitivity.
Although Schubert intended further movements, his 'Unfinished' two-movement Symphony seems curiously perfect, from the wonderful singing Allegro moderato to the heart-breaking Andante con moto.
Providing a fitting ending for tonight's programme is Elgar's best-loved creation. His glorious 'Enigma' Variations include an air of mystic and orchestral flair, reaching great emotional depth in the well-known Nimrod theme.
