ELGAR 'Enigma' Variations

The RPO plays a second concert in the G Live series under leading British conductor Barry Wordsworth. The performance begins with Schubert’s ethereal Symphony No.8, known as the 'Unfinished', with its haunting opening movement. This will be followed by Alexandra Dariescu performing Beethoven’s wonderful Piano Concerto No.4 with its great range of emotional expression. From the grand opening movement to the lyrical second movement and the exuberant finale, this has become one of Beethoven’s most popular works. After the interval we will hear a performance of what is regarded by many to be the most popular and beloved piece of English music, Elgar’s 'Enigma' Variations.
