TCHAIKOVSKY 1812 Overture

A celebration of the genius of Tchaikovsky, arguably Russia's finest classical composer, and his masterly and vivid orchestral music. The lush Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture is for many the perfect illustration of the fate of those star-cross'd lovers. Unbelievably, Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto was dismissed and regarded as unplayable and awkward when it was first performed; thankfully Tchaikovsky stuck to his laurels and the Concerto is now a firm favourite. Concluding the concert is a colourful array of excerpts from the well-loved Nutcracker ballet score, the glittering Polonaise from Eugene Onegin and the explosive drama of the 1812 Overture.

Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm by Terry Barfoot: Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture. Tickets: 4. Please contact the Box Office to book.
