SMETANA The Bartered Bride Overture
DVORĮK Cello Concerto
MENDELSSOHN Symphony No.3, 'Scottish'
The latest winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, cellist Laura van der Heijden has astounded critics and audiences with her mature and musical performances, and has already appeared with renowned orchestras including the Northern Sinfonia and Zürich Chamber Orchestra. She joins the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra to perform Dvorįk's eloquent and moving Cello Concerto, one of the many heartfelt and emotional works written by the composer during his visits to America.
The exuberant Overture to The Bartered Bride by Dvorįk's countryman Smetana provides a sparkling opening, while Mendelssohn's 'Scottish' Symphony, inspired by a visit to Edinburgh, is in turn atmospheric, outgoing and majestic.
