BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No.3
BEETHOVEN Symphony No.9, ‘Choral’
In celebration of Fairfield Halls turning fifty, the Orchestra presents a fitting golden anniversary gala featuring two of Beethoven’s most magnificent works. The Third Piano Concerto was dedicated to Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia, himself a composer, and features a slow movement of tranquil beauty, offset by the finale’s memorable, lively theme. Beethoven’s last completed symphony is in every sense a revolutionary work, characterised by an intensity of emotional expression and overpowering energy. The unfolding drama of the first three movements culminates in the celebrated finale – the Ode to Joy – in which vocal soloists and choir intone Beethoven’s heartfelt and unforgettable plea for universal love.
